Combining engineering, art and technology with hands-on experience, The myLab Program was launched by Saura Naderi, to inspire passion in engineering. Naderi, a UC San Diego engineering alumna, partners with university colleagues to provide undergraduate workshops, internships, and K-12 outreach. Housed in the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), The myLab Program was developed to give aspiring engineers the opportunity to research, design and implement their own ideas.
Since its inception, the lab has grown beyond the walls of Calit2, trying to meet the demand for cross disciplinary curriculum and hands-on experience. Working closely with colleagues and other non-profit partners, the myLab Program provides workshops and classes for both UC San Diego undergraduates; and K-12 students in underserved areas of San Diego.
“This program has opened up a different door for China, just to know that engineering exists and what goes into it,” she noted. “It’s not just math and science — it’s so much more than that.”
