We have the opportunity to redesign the youth center at South Metro in San Diego. I'm currently seeking 2-3 from the following disciplines: Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer engineering undergraduates. The project will allow you to gain experience in your field while also forfilling the needs of an under served community - double win!! This project will be exciting because you'll be able to use your imagination and physically build and implement them. Not too shabby, eh?
Requirements:
We're interested in Sophomore and Juniors (or seniors that will stick around for a while) in their fields. You'll be given the task of redesigning a youth center ( imagine a really big room) that has multi purpose use - from allowing a teacher to hold sessions to acting as place for kids to study. There are a group of kids (16-18) who act as the "advisory board" of this redesign and your job is to work WITH them to help with the project , especially since they are the demographic this youth center is targeting.
Examples:
-Making an art table that is attached to a wall that can be pulled up and has a white board underneath it.
-Creating a mechanism that holds a large screen tv and creating a remote control that allows the user to face the tv in any direction.
This project has been pulled together rather rapidly and the due date to submit a resume is next week, Friday Jan. 21, 2011. The following Monday, Jan. 24, we'll be contacting students to conduct interviews the same week. By Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 - we will have a team.
Good luck - this is going to be fun!
